Cebu

Cebu, Philippines

Cebu is a province of the Philippines, in the country’s Central Visayas region, comprising Cebu Island and more than 150 smaller surrounding islands and islets. Its prosperous port capital, Cebu City, retains landmarks from its 16th-century Spanish colonial past, including the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño church and triangular Fort San Pedro. Tops, an observation deck on Mt. Busay, has sweeping views over the city.

ISLANDS AND BEACH RESORTS

Bantayan Island
Located in the northernmost part of Cebu, Bantayan Island is approximately 140 kilometers away from the Cebu City proper. Travel time from the capitol would be about 3 to 4 hours, which includes land transport going to Hagnaya Port in the town of San Remigio, a ferry ride to the Sta. Fe Wharf and a tricycle ride to the resort of your choice within Bantayan Island.

Once you hit the beach, you will surely fall in love with the picturesque view of the shoreline with white sand and clear blue-green water. It’s a sight to behold indeed! So be sure to take several selfies, especially during sunset.

Camotes Islands
Looking for other beach and diving options in Cebu? Then take a tour of the Camotes Islands, located east of the Cebu main island, approximately 3 kilometers away from Cebu City. There are three main islands to explore: Poro, Pacijan and Ponson, plus a minor islet called Tulang Island.

Swim along the white-sand shoreline of the different beach resorts like Santiago Bay; or if you want a little adrenaline rush, you can go cliff diving in Buho Rock Resort. Other notable places to visit and explore are Lake Danao, Busay Waterfalls, the Guadalupe, Bukilat, Holy Crystal and Timabu caves.

Sumilon Island
The Island of Sumilon is also located in Oslob, Southern Cebu. It’s about a 15-minute boat ride from Barangay Tan-awan. There is a private resort on the island, but there is also a public beach area.

You can enjoy frolicking on the white-sand shoreline or sandbar and go swimming on the clear blue waters. The private resort offers even more fun-filled island activities, such as fishing, kayaking and island trekking.

Mactan Island Beach Resorts
Some of the more notable beach resorts in Mactan are: Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, Maribago BlueWater Beach Resort, Tambuli and White Sands Beach Resorts and Shangr-La Beach.

Moalboal
Explore more of the province of Cebu by heading down south to Moalboal, about 89 kilometers from Cebu City or a 2-and-a-half to 3-hour bus ride from the capitol. Then from the town proper, just ride a tricycle and ask the driver to take you to Panagsama Beach or White Beach in Barangay Saavedra.

Kawasan Falls
After climbing up Osmeña Peak, you can actually trek your way down to the neighboring town of Badian to visit the Kawasan Falls.

Kawasan Falls has three levels of waterfalls, but the first one at the bottom level is the largest fall where people hang out to relax, swim and enjoy the cool and clear water pouring down the waterfall. There are tables and rafts for rent as well as cottages for those who want to stay overnight.
