MORE ABOUT CEBU CITY:
Cebu City, city, Cebu Island, south-central Philippines. Located on Cebu Island’s eastern coast, it is protected by offshore Mactan Island and by the inland Cordillera Central. It is one of the country’s largest cities and is a bustling port. Its harbor is provided by the sheltered strait between Mactan Island and the coast.
This historic city is one of the most popular jumping off-points in all of the Philippines for foreign visitors, with the busiest seaport in the Philippines and the second largest air hub.
Do as the locals do and catch a colorful and noisy jeepney, an icon of the Philippines! These converted military jeeps from World War II remain on active duty serving the bulk of Cebu's transportation needs. While there may be more comfortable, faster, and cleaner modes of transport, it's still worth riding a jeepney as a cultural experience and getting really up close and personal with the locals. Jeepneys are available 24 hours a day and cover most of the city.
For some, the immediate Cebu City area might be best seen briefly, or bypassed entirely, on the way to fantastically more picturesque destinations such as the network of islands and dive spots to the north and south of Cebu.
Cebu Ocean Park - This new facility next to SM Seaside opened in 2019 and has fish, birds, reptiles, insects, and other wildlife on display. There is also a bird show and food stands. The park is good for about two hours of entertainment.
Drink, Eat, Laugh, and Party - The bulk of Cebu City's nightlife can be found in and around Mango Square where you'd find bars, clubs, and discos.
The island of Olango and its 6 small satellite islands are ideal for snorkeling as well as observation of migratory birds.
